Race Kicks Off: Focus on the British Rowing Beach Sprint Championships and 'Lea Mans' Event

The British Rowing Beach Sprint Championships and the Lea Mans event are gearing up for an action-packed weekend on the south coast and in Hackney.

The British Rowing Beach Sprint Championships, supported by Swift Racing UK, will take place from 30-31 August at Knoll Beach. This year's event is expected to be the biggest yet, with World and National Champions, Four Nations Series winners, and newcomers set to compete. Local rivals Eton Excelsior RC and Weyfarers RC will face off, while Distant clubs Spitfire BC and Hornets RC will meet for the first time in the event.

In a remarkable display of athleticism, Tim Clarke, a former rugby player, broke three indoor rowing world records at the age of 65. As he prepares for the British Rowing Indoor Championships, more information about his journey to breaking world records can be found online.

The Lea Mans event, started three years ago as part of the Thames Valley Explorer League (TVEL), has since expanded to three phases. Crews in the Lea Mans event will compete in stable mixed coxed quads supplied by the host club. The event consists of a run to the boats, a slalom section, a pirouette and a halt and go with a crew swap, a downstream time trial, and side by side finals.

The Lea RC bar will be a venue for celebrating performances in the British Rowing Beach Sprint Championships. The Organising Committee is hosting the event, with the location moved to Knoll Beach due to weather forecasts. There is a current promotion offering £50 per person savings on Jet2 Holidays for a PR3 Mixed Coxed Four.

The Lea Mans event will mark its third running on the River Lea this weekend. For more details about the Lea Autumn Regatta, please visit its official website. The Asian Le Mans Series, while not directly related to the British events, is also making waves this season with various teams participating, including some that are debuting. However, specific crew names and debut participants for the 2021 third edition are not detailed in the available search results.

Don't miss out on this blockbuster weekend of rowing!
