Race winner at Zandvoort's sandy tracks: Piastri triumphs
In a thrilling race at the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort, Formula 1 saw a new winner emerge as Oscar Piastri clinched his seventh victory of the season for McLaren.
Piastri, who is currently performing exceptionally well in the championship, started the race from pole position and maintained his lead throughout, despite Max Verstappen's daring move at the start of the race. Verstappen, driving for Red Bull, took a risk by starting on the softer tires, but ultimately finished second.
The race, however, was marred by several incidents. Lewis Hamilton, driving for Mercedes, crashed into the barriers after a driving error, while Charles Leclerc and Kimi Antonelli collided, ending Leclerc's Grand Prix. The Ferrari team, which failed to finish a car just a week before their home race, had another disappointing outing as both their drivers, Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, faced setbacks. Sainz sliced Liam Lawson's tire in the Williams and received a 10-second penalty, while Leclerc's race ended prematurely due to a collision with Antonelli.
Isack Hadjar, a rookie driver for Red Bull's affiliate team, Racing Bulls, celebrated his first Formula 1 podium at the Dutch Grand Prix, finishing third. However, despite his impressive performance, Hadjar remains with Racing Bulls for the 2025 season, with speculation surrounding his potential move to Red Bull's main team in 2026.
Nico HΓΌlkenberg finished 14th in the Sauber, while Lando Norris, Piastri's teammate at McLaren, did not finish the race due to an oil leak, ending his championship challenge.
With Piastri now leading the championship by 34 points over Norris, and Verstappen 104 points behind, the battle for the title is heating up. The next race is sure to be an exciting one as the drivers continue their fight for supremacy.
