Racing jockeys, Jim Crowley and Trevor Whelan, reportedly sustain suspected leg fractures in a disturbing mid-race mishap at York.

In a concerning turn of events at York Racecourse, former jump jockeys Jim Crowley and Trevor Whelan suffered suspected broken legs in a racing incident during the Sky Bet Starman Garrowby Stakes.

The incident, which involved a field of nine horses racing in a tight bunch, occurred in the six-furlong sprint. Both Crowley, on Almeraq, and Whelan, on Tiger Bay, were treated on the course after the incident. Fortunately, no injuries were reported to either Tiger Bay or Almeraq, the horses ridden by Trevor Whelan and Jim Crowley respectively.

The stewards initially wanted to hold an inquiry into the falls, but it was adjourned to a date to be confirmed due to the jockeys receiving medical attention. As of now, both jockeys are conscious and talking, and they are each in an ambulance, heading to Leeds General Infirmary for further treatment.

The following fillies' handicap was run over 20 minutes late due to the injuries and treatment of Jim Crowley and Trevor Whelan. The race was won by Elmonjed.
