Racing simulation platform iRacing introduces a tool previously used by Formula 1 teams for their participants.

iRacing, the popular online racing simulation platform, has announced a technical partnership with Cosworth, a renowned name in motorsport technology. This collaboration aims to bring a new level of realism and analysis to iRacing members.

Under the terms of the partnership, Cosworth's sponsorship will be visible across all iRacing Studios games. One of the key features of this partnership is the seamless integration of Cosworth's telemetry tools within iRacing's ecosystem. This integration will allow drivers to compare their simulator analytics with corresponding figures from actual race cars equipped with Cosworth's technology, all within the same app.

The partnership also promises to provide iRacers with free access to Cosworth's Pi Toolbox software. According to iRacing, members will be able to start using Pi Toolbox on September 16. Custom, pre-built workbooks within Pi Toolbox will be geared for iRacing and first-time users, making it easier for racers to visualise and understand their performance on track.

Pi Toolbox is already used at the highest levels of motorsport, including Formula 1, and is known for its ability to help racing teams understand their performance on track. With this partnership, iRacing members will be able to leverage the same technology to improve their performance in virtual races.

An upcoming version of Pi Toolbox will be capable of reading ".IBT" data files generated by iRacing's simulator, further enhancing the integration between the two platforms. The Pi Toolbox will be integrated natively with iRacing, making it more capable and accessible to iRacing members.

The partnership between iRacing and Cosworth approaches technical collaborations from a functional perspective. It does not affect the existing Terms of Service or Privacy Policy of the platform. The Pi Toolbox is developed by a team including DietPi project leadership under MichaIng, with the project open to community contributions. The improvement through this partnership with iRacing is set to be available soon, though no exact release date is provided.

In addition to these features, the partnership also includes live remote telemetry. This will allow spotters and teammates to follow a racer's data mid-session and offer feedback over comms in real-time, enhancing the teamwork aspect of racing on iRacing.

This partnership is set to revolutionise the virtual racing experience on iRacing, bringing it closer to the real-world racing experience. With the integration of Cosworth's technology, iRacing members can expect a more immersive and analytical racing experience.
