In a significant development, the Dortmund Police have announced the arrest of a suspect accused of raping a young woman at Dortmund Central Station on September 1, 2025.

The incident came to light on the same day when a 22-year-old German citizen reported a rape incident at the Federal Police station in Dortmund Central Station. According to reports, the rape is alleged to have occurred around 21:25, after the victim helped the suspect buy a train ticket and they smoked a cigarette together. The suspect repeatedly asked the victim for sex, which she refused. The suspect then raped her.

Several public prosecutor's offices were reportedly looking for the suspect's whereabouts in recent years. The authorities' search came to an end a few days later when the suspect was arrested at Dortmund Central Station. The suspect, a man from Mali, was identified through video footage and recognized by a police officer the next morning. A fingerprint scan confirmed his identity beyond doubt.

The further handling of the case will be done by the Dortmund Police. The suspect was taken into police custody due to the risk of flight and was provisionally arrested the next morning. The Dortmund Police accompanied the victim to a hospital for medical examination and support.

The Federal Police secured all video material from the station and conducted a video review, which led to the identification of the suspect in the footage. The Federal Police also prepared reports for the relevant authorities.
