Ready and set for action
In the northern district of Arnsberg, the State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia has announced plans to establish a new emergency shelter for refugees towards the end of 2025. The decision comes as the lease for the current emergency shelter, the Alfred-Fischer-Hall, expires at the end of September this year.
The District Government of Arnsberg has decided not to renew the lease for the Alfred-Fischer-Hall and will discontinue its operation from October 1st. As of now, around 150 people reside in the facility, which has been an emergency shelter for refugees since the end of 2023.
After the residents move out, the Alfred-Fischer-Hall will be dismantled, stored, and undergo necessary renovation and repair work to be converted back into a shelter within 72 hours. The facility can accommodate up to 400 people.
Fortunately, there are expected to be around 240 free municipal accommodation places available in Hamm to absorb the capacity of the emergency shelter. For further information or assistance regarding refugees in Hamm, you can contact the Office for Integration, Foreigner and Refugee Affairs at Sachsenweg 6559073. More details about the office can be found in the service portal.
The current residents of the Alfred-Fischer-Hall will be accommodated in other facilities of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in the district. The State Chancellery has not yet disclosed the exact location of the new emergency shelter, but it is anticipated that more information will be shared in due course.
This transition marks a significant change in the region's approach to refugee accommodation, reflecting the ongoing commitment of the North Rhine-Westphalia government to provide support and resources for those in need.
