Reduced Electric Vehicle Subsidies in Romania to Enhance Scheme's Sustainability

The Minister of Environment, Water, and Forests, Diana Buzoianu, has announced the release of a new financing guide for the Rabla Auto 2025 Program. The guide, which is now open for public consultation, will come into effect in 2025.

The minister's statement focuses on building a more stable and sustainable financing framework for the program. However, it did not provide specific details about the adjusted eco-voucher value for electric vehicles.

The eco-voucher for electric vehicles has been adjusted under current budgetary conditions. The new eco-voucher represents a decrease of 30% compared to the value of EUR 5,000 granted last year. For full-electric or hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, not marketed in Romania, the eco-voucher value is now RON 18,500 (approximately EUR 3,500).

Subsidies for new vehicles with a thermal engine (including LPG/CNG) or for new motorcycles remain at RON 10,000. Subsidies for new hybrid vehicles remain at RON 12,000. The minister's statement did not mention any changes to these subsidies.

The guide introduces a significant adjustment in support for electric vehicles. This is a reduction compared to the initial promises of EUR 7,500 at the start of the year. The minister did not mention any changes to these initial promises in her statement.

The objective remains less pollution and a gradual transition towards clean mobility in Romania. The Social Fund for Climate will be used to cover the Rabla Auto 2025 Program in the future. The minister's statement indicates a focus on offering support to as many Romanians as possible this year.

It's important to note that the minister did not provide information about the eco-voucher value for full-electric or hydrogen fuel cell vehicles not marketed in Romania, or any changes to subsidies for other types of vehicles in this statement.

The new financing guideline for the Rabla Auto 2025 program is now available for public consultation. Interested parties are encouraged to review and provide feedback on the guide before it comes into effect in 2025.
