New Evangelical Police Chaplain Appointed in Recklinghausen/Bottrop
Markus Wippermann has been appointed as the new Evangelical Police Chaplain in Recklinghausen/Bottrop, effective from July 8, 2023. The appointment took place at the Police Headquarters.
Wippermann will serve on a part-time basis, working alongside his Catholic colleague, Gregor Coerdt. Coerdt is responsible for teaching professional ethics, supporting colleagues after challenging deployments, and being available for orientation discussions on professional or personal matters.
Wippermann, a native of Dortmund, brings previous experience as a crisis intervention chaplain to his new role. He also volunteers in crisis intervention apart from his professional duties. The police chaplaincy, described as a "safe space for those who protect," is not part of the official hierarchy.
The Police President, Friederike Zurhausen, expressed her pleasure at having Wippermann join the team of police chaplains. She stated, "We are delighted to welcome Markus Wippermann to our team. His experience and dedication will be invaluable in supporting our officers."
Wippermann resides in Gladbeck since 2022 and is also a community pastor there. He succeeds the recently retired pastor Burkhard MΓΌller. Wippermann is looking forward to his new role, stating that caring for souls, especially in times of crisis, is his calling.
