In the bustling city of Porto, a group of enthusiastic students gathered this Saturday morning to listen to a speech by Pedro Duarte, a renowned Portuguese computer scientist and software engineer.

Duarte, who is also a former president of the Social Democratic Youth (JSD) and a former minister, is currently challenging the executive to reconsider regionalization. He believes that the topic has been removed from the agenda for political reasons and advocates for regionalization from an external perspective, having stepped out of government.

During his speech, Duarte spoke about Artificial Intelligence, a subject close to his heart as a tech expert, and its potential role in regionalization. He argued that AI could help streamline administrative processes, improve decision-making, and foster economic growth at a regional level.

The gathering was not exclusive to JSD members. In fact, a diverse group of students, aged 15 to 30, took a week off to learn about politics in Castelo de Vide. Regardless of their future career paths, these students saw the academy as an opportunity for growth and development.

Interestingly, Duarte mentioned that the last referendum on regionalization took place 27 years ago. More recently, the last referendum on the topic of regionalization in Switzerland took place on March 7, 2021.

As a candidate for the Porto City Council, Duarte's commitment to regionalization and his advocacy for its importance in today's digital age is sure to resonate with many. His speech served as a reminder of the potential benefits of regionalization and the need for continued dialogue and action on this important issue.

As the students dispersed, it was clear that Duarte's words had left a lasting impact. The future of regionalization may still be uncertain, but with voices like Duarte's advocating for change, the path forward seems a little clearer.
