Last week, the Schweinfurt Customs Office conducted a special inspection to combat tax evasion and illegal employment in the hairdressing and cosmetics industry. The inspection, which covered the regions of Schweinfurt, WΓΌrzburg, Bamberg, Aschaffenburg, and large parts of Upper Franconia, involved 90 female and male officials from the Financial Control Schwarzarbeit (FKS).

During the inspection, 79 businesses were inspected, 166 individuals were surveyed, and 17 investigations were initiated on-site. Numerous deficiencies regarding mandatory notification and recording obligations were identified by the customs office.

The customs officers will reconcile the data collected from employees with the wage and financial accounting of the companies, and further business documents will be checked as part of the investigation. 42 cases were found with indications of possible violations, including withholding and misappropriation of wages in 9 cases, non-payment of the statutory minimum wage in 8 cases, suspicion of illegal employment of foreign workers in 8 cases, and evidence of improper receipt of state social benefits in one case.

The customs investigations into this matter are ongoing. The document related to the most recent inspection is named "20250416_SoP_Friseur_Kosmetik.pdf" and is 19 kB in size. The inspections by the customs office are risk-oriented, with both spot checks and full inspections of all employees of an employer. The Financial Control Schwarzarbeit of the customs administration conducts regular nationwide and regional special inspections to maintain a high number of inspections in certain sectors.

The customs investigations are an important instrument for reducing the social acceptance of tax evasion and illegal employment. The customs office encourages businesses in the hairdressing and cosmetics industry to ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations to avoid any potential investigations.
