Stein, Germany - The city of Stein has announced the passing of Hannelore Pfetzing-Scheitinger, a distinguished figure who served as Second Mayor and later as Third Mayor for over two decades. Born in 1949, Pfetzing-Scheitinger dedicated her life to public service, spending 30 years on the Stein city council.

Pfetzing-Scheitinger, a member of the SPD (Social Democratic Party of Germany), began her political career in 1990. Over the years, she made significant contributions to various committees, including the main and finance committee, as well as committees dealing with economic and social issues.

From 1996 to 2002, Pfetzing-Scheitinger served as the Second Mayor of Stein. Between 2002 and 2014, she held the position of Third Mayor. Her tenure was marked by a steadfast commitment to the well-being of the people, a trait that earned her widespread respect and admiration.

Pfetzing-Scheitinger's personal stance was praised for significantly shaping the municipal work over decades. Her dedication extended beyond politics, as she was actively involved in social projects. She supported the food bank and other initiatives aimed at improving the lives of Stein's residents.

In recognition of her service, Pfetzing-Scheitinger received the Bavarian State Medal for Social Services in 2016. In 2022, she was awarded the Citizen Medal by Kurt Kroemer in the name of the city.

Second Mayor Bertram Hofer expressed his condolences, stating that Stein lost a personality who dedicated herself to the city with great responsibility, heart, and energy. Pfetzing-Scheitinger passed away on August 17, 2025, at the age of 76.

The city of Stein bid farewell to Pfetzing-Scheitinger along with other long-serving city council members in 2022. Her passing marks the end of an era in Stein's political history, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, service, and commitment to the community.
