In the heart of Germany, the city of Neuss has seen significant changes in its gaming sector over the past decade. According to recent reports, revenue in Neuss gaming halls has almost quadrupled since 2006, rising from nearly €2.4 million to almost €9.5 million. This growth has been accompanied by a more than doubling of the number of slot machines in gaming halls, climbing from 140 to 295.

However, it's not all smooth sailing for the gaming industry in Neuss. A comprehensive control conducted by the Neuss public order office, in cooperation with the police and the working group on gambling addiction, revealed the presence of 21 illegal fun games, seven money gaming devices not in accordance with regulations, and two inactive sports betting terminals. Three smaller devices were immediately secured, and 18 others were sealed and must be handed over to the state criminal police office for evaluation.

Operating fun games is not just an administrative offense but also a criminal offense. The city's Trade and Regulatory Office (Gewerbe- und Ordnungsamt) has taken over the tasks of the public order police regarding the control and removal of non-compliant gambling machines since October 11, 2019. Further locations in the city area are to be successively checked to prevent illegal gambling.
