In a tragic turn of events, the body of a missing rock climber was discovered off the coast of Baltimore in County Cork on Friday morning. The deceased has been identified as Michael Coughlan, a 27-year-old Italian national.

The search for Michael began on Thursday evening at around 8:30 PM, following reports of a missing climber at Eastern Hole in Baltimore Harbour. The search operation involved a number of local agencies, including the RNLI from Baltimore, Civil Defence, gardaí, and local fishermen. Two Coast Guard helicopters, Rescue 115 from Shannon and Rescue 117 from Waterford, also joined the search.

Climbing gear belonging to the missing climber was found on the sea cliffs at approximately 11:30 PM on Thursday night. The search was halted at 1 AM and resumed at 6 AM on Friday.

A local diver recovered the body from the water this morning. The discovery helped search teams to pinpoint a specific area of the water to search on Friday morning. The body of the deceased has been taken to Cork University Hospital for a postmortem examination.

The local coroner has been informed about the deceased, and the search for the missing climber has now been called off. Our thoughts are with Michael's family and friends during this difficult time.
