Remarkable sixes: Former West Indies star overcomes initial sluggishness to slam rapid-fire fifty with six sixes in CPL
In a nail-biting encounter at the Brian Lara Stadium, the Trinbago Knight Riders managed to clinch a victory over the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025.
Jason Holder, the Patriots' captain, won the toss and elected to field first. The Trinbago Knight Riders struggled initially, losing their third wicket at 78 runs. However, Kieron Pollard's explosive innings turned the tide for the Knight Riders.
Pollard, known for his power-hitting abilities, started slowly, scoring just 12 runs off his first 13 balls. But the second ball he faced in the 10th over was sent soaring over long-on for a six, signalling the beginning of a spectacular innings.
Pollard went on to score a 21-ball fifty, a testament to his quickfire batting. He ended the innings with an impressive 65 runs off 29 balls, including two fours and eight sixes. Notably, his innings included six sixes in four consecutive balls, a feat that added to the excitement of the match.
Nicholas Pooran also contributed significantly to the Knight Riders' total, scoring 52 runs off 38 balls, with four fours and three sixes. By the end of the innings, the Knight Riders had posted a challenging total of 179-6.
The Patriots' opening stand added 96 runs in 64 balls, but their middle order struggled against the bowling of Mohammad Amir and Nathan Edward. Amir took 2 wickets for 29 runs, while Edward claimed 3 wickets for 30 runs. Despite Evin Lewis's valiant effort of 42 runs off 25 balls, the Patriots could only manage 167-6 in their 20 overs.
The match saw the second-shortest CPL innings with eight sixes, after Kieron Pollard's 28-ball 72 in 2020. The Knight Riders' bowling and fielding efforts were rewarded as they secured a 12-run victory, marking a memorable win in the CPL 2025.
This thrilling encounter between the Trinbago Knight Riders and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots was a testament to the exciting cricket that the CPL continues to deliver. The Knight Riders will be hoping to carry this momentum into their next match, while the Patriots will be looking to bounce back stronger.
