Renowned demon-shooting game Painkiller is undergoing a remake, promising a grimier and more violent aesthetic compared to its original version.

Get ready for a thrilling return to the demon-infested world of Painkiller! The classic shooter game is making a comeback in a remake set to release in fall of 2025.

Anshar Studios, known for their work on Layers of Fear, Observer: System Redux, Baldur's Gate 3, and Divinity Original Sin 2, is at the helm of this anticipated remake. The game will be published by 3D Realms and Saber Interactive.

The remake promises to deliver the same fast-paced combat fans loved, with a host of new and classic Painkiller weapons to wield. Players can expect to face terrifying enemies and uncover secrets across diverse locations.

For those who prefer playing with friends, the game will offer both online and offline multiplayer options. Up to two friends can team up, with bots available as opponents when playing offline.

The remake appears to be darker and bloodier than the original game from 2004, but additional information about the game's plot, gameplay mechanics, or other features was not available.

A new tarot card system is being introduced in the Painkiller remake to enhance abilities and combine them with other players. Four characters with unique abilities - Ink, Void, Sol, and Roch - will be available to choose from.

The game will feature jumping, dashing, and hooking mechanics for traversal, adding a new dimension to the gameplay.

Excited fans can wishlist the game on Steam, with it also set to release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Keep an eye out for more updates as we approach the fall of 2025!
