Quincy Jones, a legendary figure in the music industry, passed away at the age of 91. Born on March 14, 1933, in Chicago, Jones' career spanned multiple genres across seven decades, making him one of the most influential musicians of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Jones' early life was marked by a move to Paris in the 1950s, where he studied with Nadia Boulanger, a significant figure in 20th-century composition. During this time, he also immersed himself in the post-war classical music scene, encountering Igor Stravinsky regularly.

In Paris, Jones met and worked with some of the most important artists of the era, including jazz legends such as Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, and Chet Baker. His distinctive sound world, characterised by lush strings, catchy melodies, and cutting-edge production techniques, began to take shape.

Jones' versatility as a composer and arranger was evident in his collaborations with numerous major stars. He worked with Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, Donna Summer, and Michael Jackson, among others. In the latter years of his life, he served as a mentor figure to cross-genre phenomenon Jacob Collier.

Quincy Jones Sr., his father, was a semi-professional baseball player and a carpenter, while his mother, Sarah Frances, was a bank officer and an apartment manager. Their influence, along with his experiences in Paris, undoubtedly shaped Jones into the remarkable artist he became.
