In the heart of Siberia, Yakutia is witnessing a significant transformation as the Affordable Rental Housing in the Far East program gains momentum. Launched at the initiative of Russian President Vladimir Putin, this program is a collaborative effort between DOM.RF, the Ministry for the Development of the Far East, the Ministry of Construction, and the Ministry of Finance of Russia, along with federal and regional developers.

The program, designed to attract professionals and retain young talent in the macroregion, is currently constructing multi-apartment buildings in Yakutsk and Neryungri. Among the beneficiaries of this initiative are the Yakutsk Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the North-Eastern Federal University, institutions that stand to gain from improved housing conditions.

Aisen Nikolaev, the head of Yakutia, has been actively involved in overseeing the program's progress. In March of this year, the first 24 rental apartments in a new five-story building in Yakutsk were already occupied. By the end of 2026, 850 rental apartments are expected to be commissioned, providing a much-needed boost to housing conditions in the region.

These rental apartments, complete with furniture, appliances, and finishing, are prioritized for SVO participants, young specialists, teachers, doctors, and now also young scientists. The monthly rent for a 51 sq.m apartment is around 12,000 rubles, a significant reduction compared to the average market rate of 45,000 rubles.

The program's success is not limited to Yakutia alone. By 2025, another 351 families will improve their housing conditions due to the construction of multi-apartment buildings in Yakutsk and Neryungri. The plan also includes the construction of rental apartments in Aldan and Mirny.

Yuri Trutnev, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia and Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District, has emphasized the economic impact of the program. He stated that over 133,000 jobs have been created through investment projects with state support in the Far East.

The Affordable Rental Housing in the Far East program is a testament to the commitment of the Russian government to improving living conditions in the region. As the construction progresses, we can expect to see more families benefiting from this initiative, contributing to a more vibrant and prosperous Far East.
