Reports from the Cuxhaven Police Inspectorate, unveiled on December 28, 2024, have surfaced in the media.
In the chilly winter nights of December 2024, several incidents of road mishaps unfolded in the districts of Northern Germany, causing chaos and raising concerns among the local residents.
Let's start with an accident on the A27 near Bremerhaven, which took place on December 27. A 43-year-old driver failed to notice the end of a traffic jam and collided with a stationary Audi at high speed. The collision also pushed a Ford in front, driven by a 42-year-old from Hasbergen. Fortunately, only five people suffered slight injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals. The total damage to all vehicles is estimated at around 61,000 euros.
On the same day, at around 02:10, a general traffic control was initiated on a driver in a Seat car in the municipality of Land Wursten and city of Cuxhaven. The driver was found to be under the influence of intoxicants and was in possession of illegal intoxicants. The 18-year-old driver from Nordholz was arrested by the police authority in Cuxhaven. The exact location of the arrest was in the city of Cuxhaven on Werner-Kammann-StraΓe.
The driver of the Audi was a 61-year-old man from Bremerhaven. He was involved in the earlier accident on the A27 and had evaded control, leading to a 10-minute chase through the districts of Nordholz, Altenwalde, Oxstedt, and back to Nordholz. The driver was stopped and arrested after a brief foot chase. No other road users were endangered during the chase.
The A27 was completely closed for about two hours due to the accident measures. All three vehicles involved in the accident were no longer roadworthy and had to be towed away. The driver's license was confiscated, and further criminal proceedings were initiated against him.
In an unrelated incident, on December 28, a 32-year-old from Bremen was stopped for driving an uninsured BMW in Leher LandstraΓe, Geestland. The incident is not related to the previous incidents involving the BMW driver, the accident on the A27, or the VW driver on the motorway.
Prohibited knives were also found in the driver's car of the Seat vehicle arrested in Cuxhaven. The driver faces potential charges for evading control, driving under the influence, possession of illegal intoxicants, and possession of prohibited knives.
