Restoration attempt planned for Alhaurin's forests through Everesting event

In the picturesque town of Alhaurín el Grande, Spain, preparations are underway for an exciting event that aims to support the reforestation of the local mountains. Teresa García, the Environmental Councillor, is overseeing the preparations for this noble cause.

The event, organised by Café Lemour and the Council of Alhaurín el Grande, is scheduled for September 6 at 7:30 PM at the Feria de Alhaurín el Grande. The event is supported by organisations such as La Visiva and Cerveza Victoria, and tickets can be purchased through the Facebook page of Café Lemour or at the venue on the event day.

The highlight of the event is the charity fundraising night, which will take place on the same evening. All proceeds from the event will be used to plant new trees and aid in the recovery of the Sierra, the "green lung" of Alhaurín el Grande.

Prior to the fundraising event, a test of endurance is scheduled for September 5. Athlete Salvador Perez, known as "Senderito", will attempt to climb and descend the Alhaurín el Grande mountains ten times in a challenge called "Everesting". The cumulative elevation gain of the challenge is 8,848 metres, equivalent to the height of Mount Everest.

Local groups, including the Hunting Sports Society, the Alhaurín Sports Club, and the Fuente del Acebuche Club, are providing supplies and ensuring Salvador Perez's safety during the challenge.

Salvador Perez has urged everyone in Alhaurín and across Andalusia to join the cause, whether at the festival, through donations, or any other means.

The event promises to be a lively evening of music and celebration. Local talent, including performances by Los del Lugar, the Alhaurín Comparsa, Francis León "El Jilguero por Derecho", and DJs from Café Lemour, will ensure a memorable night.

The reforestation project in Alhaurín el Grande, delayed for three years due to the wildfire that affected the municipality in 2022, has now begun. This project is a significant step towards restoring and preserving the green lung of Alhaurín el Grande.
