Revealed: Gordon Murray Transforms McLaren F1 GTR Icon into GMSV S1 LM Model
The Gordon Murray Special Vehicles (GMSV) S1 LM, a reinterpretation of the iconic McLaren F1, has made headlines in the automotive world. Named after the McLaren F1 GTR, which won the 1995 Le Mans endurance race, the S1 LM shares some striking similarities with its predecessor while incorporating modern innovations.
The S1 LM's dashboard is an evolution of the one in the GMA T.50, featuring six dials and two screens. The minimalist cabin sports a skeletal architecture, reminiscent of the original McLaren F1, with a three-seat layout and the driver seated centrally. The steering wheel, a carbon-fiber minimalist design, bears a 30th Anniversary badge.
Under the hood, the S1 LM houses a unique 4.3-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine that revs up to an impressive 12,100 rpm. This powerhouse engine produces over 690 bhp, according to GMSV. The gearbox, based on the one in the GMA T.50 supercar, boasts short rifle-bolt-like throws for a smooth and precise driving experience.
The exhaust system, made of inconel and wrapped in 18-karat gold, mirrors the McLaren F1's heat-shielding design. The suspension system has unique geometry, a lower ride height, and unique damper settings, promising an engaging and dynamic drive.
The interior design of the S1 LM maintains the original McLaren F1's three-seat layout, with the middle dial on the instrument console being a round tachometer. The console sports six dials in total, three on each side, and two screens for additional information.
Five examples of the S1 LM have been individually specified and purchased by different buyers, but the specific names of these buyers remain undisclosed. Interestingly, all five vehicles have been bought by a single, unnamed person.
The S1 LM is a testament to Gordon Murray's design philosophy and his passion for creating exceptional vehicles. With only five S1 LM vehicles ever to be built, this reimagined McLaren F1 is sure to be a coveted collector's item in the world of automotive enthusiasts.
