Revised traffic regulations featured on Luxembourg's highways
In the Hürth district, a new traffic management system is set to be implemented at the intersection of Luxemburger Straße and Kaulardstraße, following repeated complaints about traffic jams. This solution, developed by the city of Hürth and Landesbetrieb Straßenbau NRW (Straßen.NRW), aims to improve traffic flow and enhance traffic safety.
Mayor Dirk Breuer has announced that the new system will be implemented in the near future, with the work scheduled for the weekend of July 12 and 13, 2025. If weather conditions require a postponement, the alternative dates are set for August 9 and 10.
The traffic management system is being implemented to address the issue of right-turning vehicles into Kaulardstraße when railroad crossing barriers are closed, causing significant traffic congestion. The solution involves adjusting the markings and traffic flow in the entry area.
The final road marking and traffic sign plan for the new system is already ready. Notably, the road marking work will take place in the moving traffic without closures to minimize the impact on ongoing traffic. There will only be temporary restrictions due to cones and 30 km/h signs during the work.
The new traffic regulations have been approved by the police, ensuring a smooth transition to the new system. The aim of the new traffic management system remains to improve traffic flow and enhance traffic safety, making the intersection a more efficient and safer place for all road users.
