Revives a coveted perfume artifact from Comme des Garcçons' past, now available at Dover Street Market
In the heart of Paris, at 35-37 Rue Des Francs Bourgeois 75004, Dover Street Market Paris is celebrating love in all its iterations with an exclusive edit of bespoke pieces. One of the highlights of this collection is the limited-edition Love Hurts perfume package, available online at doverstreetmarket.com.
This special edition packaging, crafted from a silver brillo-pad, can accommodate any of Mark Atlan's pebble-like Comme des Garçons' perfume bottles for various fragrances such as Amazingreen, Blackpepper, Wonderwood, CDG 2, and CDG 2 Man. The packaging, originally designed for Comme des Garçons 2 in 2005, has been re-issued today by Dover Street Market Paris.
Comme des Garçons 2, a floral chypre perfume, was composed by Mark Buxton and launched in 1999. It draws inspiration from Japanese calligraphy via aldehydic florals and heart notes of ink. Alongside Comme des Garçons 2, the Japanese brand's roster of perfumes includes Antoine Lie's Comme des Garcons 2011, which produces the olfactory illusion of industrial glue and brown scotch tape.
More recently, Odeur 10, a perfume by Comme des Garçons, recalls the antiseptic aroma of hydrogen peroxide. The brand's creative director, Christian Astuguevieille, has stated that the perfumes are always 'defined without the notion of beauty'.
The Love Hurts campaign imagery for Comme des Garçons' Parfums has been provided by Ronnie Cooke Newhouse and Karl Bolander. Aaron Esh has embroidered caps for the edit of bespoke pieces at Dover Street Market with texts from John Donne, PJ Harvey, and a 'Reddit user'.
Besides the Love Hurts packaging, the edit of bespoke pieces at Dover Street Market includes a custom BDSM harness for a pigeon bag, created by JW Anderson. Duran Lantick, a winner of Wallpaper's Design Awards 2025, has contributed a sculptural bodysuit to the collection.
This special edition of Love Hurts perfume packaging is available in only 120 units. The heart-shaped packaging is a testament to Comme des Garçons' three decades of perfume-making, a journey that continues to push boundaries and challenge traditional notions of beauty.
