River Rescue Near C'garh: IAF Saves Man Stranded for 12 Hours in Flooding River Currents

In a daring rescue mission, the Indian Air Force successfully saved a man who was trapped in the flooded Sabari River in Sukma district, Bastar, Chhattisgarh, on September 1, 2025.

The man had been stranded for 12 hours, having been swept away in the river near Nadigufa Talavarti village. Despite efforts from the local administration and police, who launched a rescue operation on Monday, the high current water prevented them from pulling him out.

The Indian Air Force was alerted from Jagdalpur, the headquarters of Bastar, and an IAF Mi-17 V-5 helicopter deployed in Jagdalpur was promptly utilised for the rescue operation. A drone was also deployed to find the exact location of the stranded man in the river.

The Garud commandos of the Indian Air Force conducted the operation in the fast-flowing waters of the Sabari River. They managed to reach the man, who was trapped in a bush, and placed a life jacket on him before pulling him out safely.

The rescue operation was captured on video and shared by the Central Air Command, IAF, with the caption "daring # RescueMission" on September 1, 25. The video showcases the skill and bravery of the Garud commandos in executing the rescue operation.

The local administration had initially deployed a motorboat for the rescue, but the high current water proved too challenging. The successful rescue operation by the Indian Air Force marks a significant relief for the local community and highlights the critical role of the IAF in disaster relief operations.
