At approximately 5:30 PM on Friday, a tragic accident occurred on the A1 motorway near the KΓΆln-Nord junction. A 43-year-old driver in an Audi was involved in a fatal accident, according to official reports.

The Audi driver, who has not been named in the reports, was alone in the car at the time of the accident. The truck driver, a 34-year-old individual, was unharmed. The Audi driver ended up underneath the trailer of a tractor-trailer, causing significant damage to the vehicle.

The accident occurred during the evening rush hour and resulted in a kilometer-long traffic jam. Vehicles already stuck in the traffic jam were directed back to the Cologne North junction, while the rest of the traffic was diverted due to the accident.

The recovery of the vehicles involved in the accident was challenging due to the Audi being severely deformed. A total of 14 vehicles were deployed by emergency services to handle the accident, and 37 emergency service personnel were on the scene.

The A1 motorway remained closed until late in the evening due to the accident, causing significant disruption to traffic. No further information is provided about the behavior in a traffic jam or the formation of a rescue corridor.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the Audi driver at this difficult time. We urge all drivers to remain vigilant and cautious on our roads, especially during rush hour.
