Robotic Vacuum's Next Capability: Conquering Stairs

In a groundbreaking display at the IFA 2025 exhibition, several companies showcased their latest innovations in stair-climbing robot vacuums. These ingenious devices, designed to tackle the age-old problem of cleaning stairs, drew much attention from the crowd.

One of the standout models was the Mova Zeus 60 robot vacuum. Equipped with a scissor-lift mechanism, this vacuum was demonstrated climbing a set of stairs in approximately 6 minutes. Despite its potential to handle spiral staircases, Mova's engineers chose to run the vacuum slower for safety reasons. The Mova Zeus 60 is expected to hit the market within the next year, although pricing details remain undisclosed.

Another notable contender was the Dreame Cyber X, which, like the Mova Zeus 60, uses a caddy to navigate stairs. The Cyber X, however, has a design reminiscent of a scary creature, similar to a Half-Life headcrab. Interestingly, the Cyber X seemed to have more difficulty maintaining balance while descending stairs compared to the Eufy MarsWalker.

The Eufy MarsWalker, with its design reminiscent of a robot designed for Mars exploration, also uses a caddy to climb stairs. When it reaches steps, the caddy extends its little arms, providing extra stability. The MarsWalker completed climbing a set of stairs in a shorter time than the Mova Zeus 60.

While these robot vacuums have made significant strides in stair-climbing capabilities, they still fall short in the area of cleaning stairs effectively. The next challenge for these innovative devices is to tackle this issue head-on.

It's worth noting that the Ascender, a vaporware at this point, was supposed to clean stairs. However, no available search results indicate which company first developed the idea of a stair-climbing robotic vacuum or whether it will be released within the next year.

Despite these advancements, traditional methods of cleaning stairs may still be necessary for a thorough clean. However, the future of cleaning looks promising with these stair-climbing robot vacuums leading the way.
