Rosehips Making a Comeback: Back on the Farmers' Radar

In the heart of rosehip cultivation season, which runs from late August to October, Frans Verhoeven's Verhoeven Bloemen is making waves in the floristry world. The Dutch rosehip grower, who started his business out of curiosity, has now formed an alliance with Adomex for marketing his unique rosehip varieties.

Frans' fascination with rosehips began when he saw cultivated rosehip branches and was intrigued. This led him to found Verhoeven Bloemen, a business specialising in rosehip cultivation. Over the years, he has focused on breeding two main varieties: Rosehip Prinsberry Red and Prinsberry Orange.

The berries on these varieties are small and tightly packed, making them ideal for bouquet work. Having both Prinsberry Red and Prinsberry Orange in cultivation helps stagger production, as they don't ripen at exactly the same time. The average stem length of Frans' rosehips ranges between 30 and 70 centimeters, providing ample length for floral arrangements.

Frans' rosehip varieties are intentionally adapted to floristry needs, with long stems, thornless, naturally shaped, and resistant to issues like mildew and pests. This ensures the highest quality for his clients.

The partnership between Frans Verhoeven and Adomex is based on a shared goal to enhance the production and distribution of high-quality floral products. Adomex now has exclusive rights to market Frans' rosehips, handling the promotion and auction sales. Frans' rosehips are sold under the Adomex name at auctions.

Verhoeven Bloemen operates fully outdoors and is affected by weather conditions. To ensure efficient water use and sustainability, the farm uses drip irrigation. Despite the unpredictable weather, Frans' rosehips hold well, even as they dry, making them suitable for fresh arrangements, dried floral work, and home decor.

In recent years, rosehips have gained popularity in the interior design world for their raw, natural aesthetic. Frans encourages florists to experiment with rosehips, as they are versatile and long-lasting.

The start of Verhoeven Bloemen was a small venture, driven more by curiosity than a business plan. Today, it stands as a testament to Frans' dedication and passion for rosehip cultivation. With the partnership with Adomex, Frans' rosehips are set to make a significant impact in the floristry world.
