Rowing clubs in the UK and beyond are benefiting from a cost-effective and life-saving initiative, thanks to the charity RALPHH. With the installation of free defibrillators, these clubs are enhancing their emergency preparedness and potentially saving lives.

RALPHH, an organisation with roots in rowing, has been attracting attention from other sports due to its vital work. British Rowing has partnered with RALPHH, and the GB Rowing Team's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Ann Redgrave, is a strong advocate for this life-saving equipment.

Dr. Redgrave emphasises the importance of having defibrillators readily available in rowing clubs, stating that relying on a defibrillator five minutes away from the boathouse is not sufficient. She expresses concern about rowing clubs without defibrillation equipment, and her call to action encourages more clubs to contact RALPHH Chairman, Richard Allen, for assistance.

Richard Allen can be reached via email (richardallen52@btinternet), phone (0794 9466795), or through his website. Since 2020, RALPHH has donated defibrillators to 16 UK rowing clubs and three rowing schools. The charity's impact extends beyond the UK, with Stiftung RALPHH donating free defibrillator systems to a total of 12 rowing clubs in Germany and Austria.

The availability of defibrillators through RALPHH is not only beneficial for rowing clubs but also for other sports. However, the growing demand from various sports may put pressure on the availability of defibrillators for rowing.

Defibrillators are crucial in emergencies, as they can save lives by restoring a normal heart rhythm. The faster a defibrillator is applied to someone in need, the better their chance of avoiding lasting damage. The installation of a defibrillator through RALPHH costs nothing, making it an accessible solution for many clubs and schools.

Dr. Redgrave's urging is a call for action for rowing clubs and schools to prioritise their safety and contact RALPHH for assistance in installing defibrillators. With RALPHH's help, more clubs can ensure they have immediate access to this life-saving equipment, enhancing their emergency preparedness and potentially saving lives.
