Russian airstrikes result in six fatalities reported by Ukraine
In the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, several significant events have transpired over the past 24 hours.
The Ukrainian General Staff reported a staggering loss of 960 Russian forces in the past day. Additionally, Russian air strikes on Ukrainian territory resulted in at least six deaths and eleven injuries overnight, with four civilians tragically losing their lives in the Donetsk region in the Donbass.
The Ukrainian military made a notable rescue operation, saving four soldiers from Russian-occupied territory who had been hiding for over three years. The soldiers were hidden in a hospital and were assisted by doctors and special units. A medical worker from the clinic who had helped conceal the soldiers was also rescued.
Ukrainian special forces also reportedly took out a Russian radar system in the Black Sea, along with a Russian boat and an electronic warfare station. The Ukrainian air force intercepted 68 drones out of 91 that Russia is said to have launched, with these being large combat drones of the Shahed or Geran-2 type, some with and some without explosive warheads.
On the diplomatic front, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has rejected an offer, while Russian President Vladimir Putin has invited him to Moscow for a meeting. US President Donald Trump expects a large number of political prisoners in Belarus to be released soon.
In a potential game-changer, 26 Western countries have expressed readiness to send troops for peacekeeping in Ukraine. French President Emmanuel Macron and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced this, with ground forces, air, or naval support on the table. Germany, however, has not committed yet, focusing first on financing, arming, and training Ukrainian troops.
Meanwhile, CSU Chairman Markus Söder suggested discussing the handling of Ukrainian refugees and considered it legitimate to consider sending combat-ready Ukrainians back to their homeland. RWE CEO Markus Krebber, on the other hand, commented cautiously on the potential restart of the Nord Stream pipelines, stating that it is ultimately a political question.
Lastly, two people were killed and two injured, including a child, in the Kherson Oblast. The US is working on security guarantees for Ukraine to help end the war with Russia.
These developments underscore the complex and evolving nature of the Ukraine-Russia conflict, with both military and diplomatic aspects playing crucial roles.
