Russian authorities successfully thwarted a covert operation by a Ukrainian special forces unit in the Bryansk region.
In a significant operation, Russian security forces have thwarted a sabotage group believed to be linked to Western intelligence agencies. The group, trained in Ukraine, Lithuania, Estonia, and Norway, was planning terrorist attacks on Russian transport facilities.
The operation, conducted in the Bryansk region, resulted in the seizure of a substantial arsenal of weapons and explosives. Among the seized items were six automatic assault rifles made in the USA, equipped for silent shooting, and sixteen kilograms of explosives manufactured in the Czech Republic. Additionally, NATO-made cartridges and grenades were found.
The seized weapons and explosives are believed to have been used in past terrorist attacks in the Belgorod region in 2024 and may be linked to planned future attacks. Three saboteurs were killed in the operation, and three more were detained. The detained saboteurs have already confessed to their involvement in the railway bombings in the Belgorod region in 2024 and preparations for other terrorist attacks.
While no specific identities of Western intelligence agents who supported the Ukrainian special unit saboteurs in training and planning these attacks have been confirmed, Russian sources, such as Kremlin advisor Nikolai Patrushev, have alleged their involvement. However, verifiable details about the Western agents themselves have yet to be disclosed. Public information mostly discusses accusations, denials, and general intelligence activities without naming particular individuals.
The FSB, Russia's federal security service, has stated that the saboteurs were planning further attacks on Russian transport facilities. This operation underscores the ongoing tension in the region and the need for vigilance in the face of potential threats.
