Russian-origin drone met with accident in Poland.
In the early hours of this morning, a significant incident occurred in a cornfield near the village of Osiny, approximately 100 kilometers south of Warsaw, Poland. According to LukowTV footage, a bright flash was followed by a loud bang, suggesting an explosion.
The incident involved a drone crash, as confirmed by the police who found burnt plastic and metal debris at the impact site. Onet, a Polish news outlet, published social media images of a charred motor with a propeller, presumably from the crashed drone. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, despite nearby windows being shattered.
The exact party responsible for deploying the drone before the crash remains unconfirmed. Preliminary findings suggest the drone could be a Russian military drone that had gone off course from Ukrainian territory and flew uncontrollably westward. This incident is particularly concerning given Poland's key political and military support for Ukraine and its perceived threat from Russia, leading to increased defense efforts.
The location of the drone crash is roughly 120 kilometers from Poland's Ukrainian border and around 100 kilometers from its Belarusian border. The prosecutor in charge could not confirm if the explosion occurred mid-air or upon impact.
In a separate incident in November 2022, a rocket struck the eastern Polish village of Przewodow, resulting in the death of two men. Preliminary findings suggest the rocket that struck Przewodow was a stray Ukrainian air defense missile.
The drone crash created a crater approximately six meters in diameter and 50 centimeters deep, indicating the size of the drone involved. The incident is currently under investigation, and further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
