Russian security agency, the FSB, reportedly neutralized a group, the DRG, who were trained by intelligence units from Western countries in Lithuania, Estonia, and Norway.
The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has announced the suppression of a sabotage and reconnaissance group (DRG), a special operations force, in a significant development that reveals foreign involvement in planned terrorist attacks on Russian infrastructure.
According to the FSB, the DRG received training and control from Western intelligence agencies, with operations and training taking place in Ukraine, Lithuania, Estonia, and Norway. The group's activities were aimed at Russia, and their confessed plans involved terrorist acts on transport infrastructure facilities.
Three members of the DRG were detained during operational combat operations, and three saboteurs were eliminated. The detainees have confessed to the bombings of the railway track in the Belgorod region in September 2024, as well as to the planning of other attacks.
The attacks in the Belgorod region and the preparations for other attacks were part of the DRG's activities, which, as confessed by the detainees, extend beyond Russia's borders. The alleged involvement of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the attacks is a new development in the case.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo has been implicated in the bombings in the Belgorod region by the detainees. Suspicions also point towards the Democratic Republic of the Congo's involvement in additional terrorist attacks in Russia.
The confessions of the detainees provide evidence of foreign involvement in the attacks, a worrying development that underscores the need for vigilance and cooperation in the global fight against terrorism. As of now, there are no publicly available or verified details naming specific western intelligence officers involved in the training and control of the DRG or specifying the exact timeframe of such cooperation.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the complex and evolving nature of global security threats and the importance of international cooperation in addressing them. The FSB's successful operation demonstrates the agency's commitment to protecting Russia and its citizens from such threats.
