Russia's Mini-Football Team Set for World Championship Competition in Lithuania

The Russian Football Union (RFU) team is all set to make its debut in the 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup, starting today in Lithuania. The team, led by coach Sergey Skorovich, will be playing as the defending vice-champions.

After rigorous training camps in Nizhny Novgorod and Moscow regions since early August, the final 16-player squad for the tournament has been announced. The squad includes goalkeepers Dmitriy Putilov from "SinaΡ€Π°", Yekaterinburg, and Georgy Zamtaradze and Albert Tsai from CPRF, Moscow. Field players such as Sergey Abramov, Andrei Afanasyev, Danil Davydov, Ivan Chishkala, Romulo, Robinho, Yanar Asadov, Artem Niyazov, and Ruslan Kudziyev have also been selected. Eder Lima rounds off the list of players.

The Russian team will face Uzbekistan, Guatemala, and Egypt in Group B. The first match for Russia is scheduled for September 12, in Vilnius against Egypt. The match against Uzbekistan will take place on September 15, also in Vilnius at 20:00 (Moscow time). The match between Guatemala and Russia will take place on September 18, in Kaunas at 18:00 (Moscow time).

Skorovich's team has a rich history in the FIFA Futsal World Cup. In the 2016 edition held in Colombia, they reached the final for the first time in history but lost to Argentina. The team is determined to make amends for their past loss and bring the trophy home this year.

The Russian team will be playing as the defending vice-champions, a title they earned after their impressive performance in the 2021 FIFA Futsal World Cup qualifiers. The team will undoubtedly put up a strong fight against their opponents in the upcoming matches.
