Sandboxes in Hünfeld will enter a seasonal pause - Last chances for XXL sandbox experiences in the town
The city of Hünefeld's municipal maintenance department has announced that it will be taking on the responsibility of maintaining and dismantling the popular XXL sandpit after the winter break on September 7, 2025.
Starting from September 8th, the maintenance team will begin the dismantling process of the sandpit, which is located in the heart of the city on Mittelstraße. After dismantling, the sand will be temporarily stored.
Unfortunately, this means that the sandpit will not be available for public use after September 7th. However, until that date, visitors are welcome to enjoy the sandpit, digging and splashing to their heart's content.
Interestingly, the sand from the sandpit will not be used during the winter break. Once the winter season is over, the stored sand will be distributed on the city's playgrounds, adding a touch of the beach to the city's parks.
Good news for sandpit enthusiasts! The XXL sandpit is scheduled to return in the summer holidays of 2026, providing another fun-filled season of sandy play.
In a separate announcement, City Marketing Hünefeld has also shared that they will be storing buckets, watering cans, and shovels during the winter break, ensuring that they are in good condition for next year's summer season.
