School containers' temporary solution implemented

The Reuterstraße school in Vienna is undergoing a series of changes, with the aim of improving facilities and maintaining a low-restriction environment for students and teachers.

Recently, mold was discovered in three containers within the school's ceiling structure during exams. In response, MA 34 - Construction and Building Management of the City of Vienna (MA 34 - Bau- und Gebäudemanagement) decided to replace the twelve lost classrooms with five existing rooms, a newly installed C-container, and two additional rooms from the music school. The three moldy containers were deemed uneconomical to repair and will be replaced with new ones.

The new containers provide more space and meet current technical requirements. A third new container, the so-called C-container, was equipped for occupancy during the holidays, providing three additional rooms for classes. Once technical details are clarified, the rooms in the C-container will also be available for digital lessons.

School principal Sven Hees acknowledges that there will be restrictions due to nearly full room utilization. However, the active support of the administration is helping to compensate for the new strain. The neighboring music school has offered two rooms for the school to use during the transition period.

Department head Alexandra Meuthen states that all parties are working to keep restrictions low for students and teachers. Priority is given to the installation of the two new containers. The phase of consolidation is expected to end by mid to late November.

The renovation of the middle section, originally planned for immediately after the holidays, has been postponed until two new containers are ready for occupancy by the end of November. The former room of the school social pedagogue has been converted into a course room, leaving one room less than before for the transition period.

Not every lesson can take place in specialized rooms due to restrictions. However, the school is making efforts to ensure that all necessary lessons can be accommodated. The decision to replace lost classrooms with a combination of existing rooms and new containers demonstrates a commitment to providing the best possible learning environment for the school's students.

The school principal also expressed gratitude for the community's understanding and support during this time of transition. The consolidation phase is a necessary step towards a brighter future for the Reuterstraße school, and the school community is looking forward to the improved facilities and continued growth.
