Scooter Rider Escapes Police Pursuit in Heidelberg's Pfaffengrund/Rhine-Neckar District - Witnesses Urged to Come Forward with Information
In a dramatic incident that unfolded on Thursday afternoon, a police officer attempted to stop an unidentified moped rider on the B 535 near Mannheim.
At around 4:35 PM, the officer signaled for the rider to stop, but the rider initially slowed down before accelerating and attempting to flee. The suspect, described as male and heavyset, was wearing overalls during the incident.
The moped rider was merging from the L600a onto the B 535 when the chase began. In a close call, the officer managed to jump out of the way to avoid a collision, but unfortunately, the rider crashed onto the road not far from the checkpoint. Despite the crash, the rider managed to get back up and fled in the direction of Leimen.
During the struggle, the officer tried to grab the rider, but was thrown to the ground due to the rider's acceleration and sustained minor injuries. The rider collided with the right-hand guardrail before successfully fleeing from the scene.
The name of the man who attempted to escape is not provided in the available search results. The traffic unit Heidelberg - Walldorf branch has taken over further investigations.
