Belarus Struggles in 2026 World Cup Qualifiers

Belarus' journey in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers has been challenging so far, with the team yet to score a goal from open play. As of now, they find themselves at the bottom of Group C with no points to their name.

Their recent match, which was played with empty stands, saw a 1-0 loss against Scotland. The lone goal was scored by Che Adams in the 43rd minute, assisted by McTominay. Unfortunately for Belarus, their own goal by Volkov in the second half, after a Gilmour cross, proved to be the deciding factor.

The match, hosted by Belarus, was held in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary due to UEFA sanctions. The team made eight changes to their lineup compared to their previous match against Greece, but these adjustments did not yield the desired results.

Denmark, who won against Greece in the parallel match of Group C, 3:0, currently leads the group with 4 points. Scotland follows closely with 3 points, while Greece has 4 points as well.

Looking ahead, Belarus has several crucial matches coming up. On November 15, they will face Denmark in an away match. The upcoming "home" match for Belarus, scheduled for October 9, will also be against Denmark, but this time in Hungary.

Belarus will also face Scotland in an away test on October 12. The team will host Greece in the final match of the group stage on November 18.

If Belarus fails to win any of their upcoming matches, they will remain at the bottom of Group C. It's important to note that the Belarusian national team has several upcoming UEFA European Qualifiers matches for the 2026 FIFA World Cup between March and November 2025. However, the exact fixtures for Belarus beyond their match against Greece on 8 September 2025 are not yet detailed. The qualifiers run until November 2025, with playoffs in March 2026.

As the qualifiers progress, Belarus will aim to break their open play goal drought and climb up the Group C standings. The team will need to regroup and find their winning formula to secure a spot in the World Cup.
