Scripps Appoints Matthew Hijuelos to Oversee Distribution Plans
Matthew Hijuelos has been promoted to the role of Vice President of Distribution at E.W. Scripps, effective from January 1, 2023. The news comes as Robin Davis, the previous Vice President of Distribution, prepares to retire at the end of the year.
Hijuelos, who is based in New York, has been serving as the Senior Director of Media Distribution for Scripps. His extensive industry relationships and understanding of the business have made him a valuable asset to the company, and he is well-suited to lead the team responsible for managing distribution across various Scripps platforms, including cable, satellite, virtual pay TV providers, and multicast spectrum.
Before joining Scripps, Hijuelos served as vice president of business distribution at Ion Media, where he led OTT strategy, partnerships, technology, monetization, and analytics for the Ion networks. His experience in this role may prove valuable for his new position at Scripps, where he will be responsible for the strategy, development, and execution of multiplatform distribution and monetization partnerships across Scripps' national networks, local TV stations, sports, and original programming.
Hijuelos began his career as a business analyst at JP Morgan before moving on to work as a management consultant for KPMG. He spent nearly 20 years with Akamai Technologies, holding several leadership positions focused on business development. His experience in business development at Akamai Technologies and his background in finance, having worked as a business analyst at JP Morgan and a management consultant at KPMG, may provide a strong foundation for his role at Scripps.
Jason Combs, Scripps' Chief Financial Officer, has praised Hijuelos as a respected media and business leader with a track record for successfully managing complex distribution negotiations. Hijuelos' leadership has been instrumental in Scripps' streaming distribution efforts, contributing to the growth of the company's annual connected TV advertising revenue.
Hijuelos joined Scripps in 2021 as part of its acquisition of Ion Media. In his current role, he is responsible for overseeing the team that will manage the distribution of Scripps' content across various platforms. With his extensive industry relationships and understanding of Scripps' business, Hijuelos is poised to lead the company's distribution team to success in the coming years.
