Second day of Portals competition sees Sled in the lead, amidst impending storm warning

In the midst of meteorological uncertainty on the second day of the Puerto Portals 52 Super Series Sailing Week 2025, the Race Committee, led by MarΓa Torrijo, made the decision to cancel the remaining races due to the approach of a storm cell from Ibiza.

The day began with the fleet advancing its on-water start in the hope of completing a full program. The first and only race of the day commenced at 12:35 with winds of 7-9 knots. The American Sled, helmed by Takashi Okura and with Francesco Bruni on tactics, dominated the race, securing an uncontested victory.

Alegre, the British yacht skippered by Andy Soriano and tactician Paul Goodison, who was making his debut, put in a strong performance, securing a solid second place. This result strengthened Alegre's provisional lead, with a five-point advantage. The American Magic Quantum Racing, guided by Terry Hutchinson, finished third.

The French Paprec, initially taking the lead, yielded to the Sled during the race. No new information about the performance of the French Paprec or the American boat, which had Olympic kayaking medalist Marcus Cooper as a guest, was provided.

Meanwhile, the Spanish team Provezza, navigated by Nacho Postigo, suffered a broken main halyard and did not finish the race, scoring a 13. Postigo stated that the electrical activity was approaching Dragonera, making it sensible to return to port.

Despite the challenges faced on the second day, the Committee hopes to run up to three races starting at 12:00 tomorrow. Alegre, with its strong performance, will aim to extend its lead, while the American Sled and Quantum Racing, tied for second place, will strive to close the gap.

Competition will continue tomorrow in Palma Bay, promising another day of exciting racing at the Puerto Portals 52 Super Series Sailing Week 2025.
