Sector Growth Remains Consistent in Vedic Industry
The energy services, efficiency, and contracting industry experienced a steady growth of 7.5 percent in 2024, as reported by industry data. The industry's turnover increased by 6.3 percent to approximately 5.26 billion euros.
One of the key drivers of this growth was the increased use of air-source heat pumps. The share of air-source heat pumps in energy services more than doubled from 14 to 30 percent in 2024, reflecting their growing popularity as an optimal solution in renewable energy projects.
However, the overall share of renewable energies in energy services decreased from 27 to 24 percent in 2024. This decrease was partly offset by an increase in the use of natural gas, which rose by four percentage points to 70 percent in energy services. The use of oil and district heating remained relatively low, estimated at 2 and 4 percent respectively.
In the municipal sector, the industry's projects saw a slight increase, with municipalities accounting for 7 percent of the total projects. Notably, the cities or municipalities with the highest shares of projects in heat management using combined heat and power plants based on water-source heat pumps were not publicly specified in available data.
Tobias Dworschak, CEO of vedec, highlighted the need for clear, reliable, and long-term framework conditions for the industry's continued growth. He also emphasised the importance of municipal heat planning as a crucial partner for the energy transition.
In the contracting sector, the industry saw a 7.5 percent increase in contracts compared to the previous year. Contracting companies used fewer pellets and wood chips, with the share decreasing to 26 percent in 2024. Around 67 percent of projects in the industry were in the housing sector and district heating.
As the industry continues to grow and evolve, the focus on renewable and efficient energy solutions is expected to remain a key priority. The increasing adoption of air-source heat pumps and the steady growth in the industry are positive signs for a more sustainable future in energy services.
