Securing Unauthorized Access at Construction Sites to Prevent Theft

In an effort to enhance the safety of its residents, the city of Nordhorn and the district of Grafschaft Bentheim have joined forces to incorporate burglary prevention measures into their building ordinance practices. This collaborative initiative, spearheaded by the Crime Prevention Council of the city of Nordhorn, aims to make secure living a more achievable goal for all.

The campaign, titled "Secure Living is Planable," is a joint effort involving members of the council, administration, police, and various social organizations. The police, the Crime Prevention Council, and the regional craftsmen's association are working together to raise awareness for structural burglary prevention measures.

Since early September, an information flyer titled "Secure Living is Planable" is included with every building permit issued by the city of Nordhorn and the district of Grafschaft Bentheim. The flyer is aimed at builders and architects, providing them with practical advice on how to make burglary more difficult in houses in Grafschaft Bentheim.

The regional craftsmen's association of Grafschaft Bentheim agreed to cover the costs for the design and printing of the information flyer. This commitment demonstrates their dedication to the cause and their role in the awareness campaign.

Police Commissioner Uwe van der Heiden, in a meeting of the Crime Prevention Council of the city of Nordhorn, discussed the importance of raising awareness through the building ordinance offices. His proposal was immediately accepted. Van der Heiden emphasized that even in relatively new or recently renovated apartments, there are usually no precautions in the sense of modern burglary protection.

The initiative is focused on preventing burglaries during home construction. The committee, headed by Karl-Heinz Neumann, the head of the Criminal Prevention Council Nordhorn, believes that by involving builders and architects early in the process, they can help ensure that homes in Grafschaft Bentheim are built with security in mind.

In 2017, burglary crime had decreased in Grafschaft Bentheim, according to Police Commissioner Uwe van der Heiden. While this is a positive development, the committee remains vigilant and committed to continuing their efforts to keep the community safe.

The collaboration between the parties aims to involve the building ordinance offices in burglary prevention efforts, ensuring that the principles of security and safety are integrated into the fabric of the community. By working together, the city of Nordhorn and the district of Grafschaft Bentheim strive to make secure living a reality for all their residents.
