Securities Commission Declines Approval for Two Proposed Solana Exchange-Traded Funds
U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Rejects Two Spot Solana ETF Applications
In a recent development, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has rejected at least two applications for spot Solana Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs). The rejections were confirmed by Fox Business journalist Eleanor Terrett.
Five firms — VanEck, 21Shares, Bitwise, Canary Capital, and Grayscale Investments — had filed applications for spot Solana ETFs. However, the specific applicants affected by the rejections are currently unknown. The SEC's rejection of the Solana ETFs occurred under the current administration, but it does not necessarily mean that Solana ETFs will never be approved in the future.
The SEC's stance on new cryptocurrency ETFs might be influenced by past events such as the launch of eleven spot Bitcoin ETFs. Terrett suggested that the SEC's decision could be a reflection of the current administration's unwillingness to approve new cryptocurrency ETFs. Further rejections of pending applications for cryptocurrency ETFs are possible, according to Terrett.
The price chart shows high volatility with a slight downward trend for Solana (SOL). Interestingly, Solana exhibited minimal reaction to the news, implying that the market response might be attributed to community optimism surrounding the potential appointment of a new SEC chair.
It is important to note that the SEC's rejection does not apply to existing Solana ETFs, only those that are spot ETFs. Moreover, none of the companies had officially confirmed Terrett's statement at the time of this publication.
Further details on the anticipated changes in leadership at the SEC are forthcoming. As the situation unfolds, investors and market participants will closely watch developments regarding the potential approval of new cryptocurrency ETFs in the United States.
