The Main Customs Office in Regensburg is currently under investigation for a systematic case of wage evasion and misappropriation that took place between 2016 and 2021. The investigation was conducted by the Schwarzarbeit tax control office in Furth im Wald.

According to the investigation, the Main Customs Office Regensburg and an employee are accused of deliberately circumventing legal regulations regarding social security contributions. The employee was charged by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Regensburg for aiding and abetting this unlawful practice.

The case of wage evasion involved a practice known as wage splitting, where the wage of one person was divided among several other employees to avoid social security contributions. In one instance, the overtime payments of one employee were distributed among 16 different colleagues between 2018 and 2019.

Moreover, conscious efforts were made not to pay or to pay insufficient social security contributions, including for pension, health, or unemployment insurance. This deliberate act is a serious breach of legal obligations and is not being met by the Main Customs Office Regensburg and the involved employee.

Matschke, the Lead Government Director at the Main Customs Office Regensburg, stated that this case demonstrates how some companies deliberately evade their social responsibilities. Matschke also emphasised that wage splitting, as demonstrated in this case, is not a minor offense and harms the social state and fair competition.
