Team Group Introduces Secure M.2 SSD with Data Destruction Feature

Team Group, a Taiwanese memory specialist, has unveiled a new M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD named the P250Q-M80. The SSD boasts a range of durability claims and a unique data destruction feature, setting it apart from other storage devices on the market.

The P250Q-M80 offers impressive speeds of up to 7.0 GB/s reads and 5.5 GB/s writes, thanks to its 3D TLC NAND and PCIe Gen4x4 controller. However, it's the SSD's data destruction capabilities that truly stand out.

The P250Q-M80 features a hardware method called H/W Quick Erase, which uses high-voltage breakdown technology to physically destroy NAND Flash, ensuring data is irrecoverable. This method can be triggered by a physical or event-based trigger, in addition to a big red button that comes with the SSD.

When the big red button is held down during the H/W Quick Erase process, a warning light on the 2280 PCB flashes. The S/W Quick Erase method, on the other hand, erases all data while retaining device functionality, making it ideal for repeated use.

The P250Q-M80 also has S.M.A.R.T. health monitoring, ensuring the SSD remains in optimal condition. It is designed to withstand a wide range of temperatures, from -55°C (-67°F) to +95°C (203°F), and boasts MIL-STD 810G vibration endurance and MIL-STD-202G shock resistance.

The P250Q-M80 is available in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities. Unfortunately, pricing and availability details for the SSD are not yet available.

It's worth noting that reusing or repairing a H/W Quick Erased device may be more effort than it is worth due to the specific pairing of NAND with a control chip. This is a testament to the SSD's robust data destruction capabilities.

The patent application for the intelligent data destruction technology used in the P250Q-M80 was filed by SimplySecure, further highlighting Team Group's commitment to security and innovation.

In summary, the P250Q-M80 is an impressive M.2 SSD that offers both speed and security. Its unique data destruction feature, combined with its robust durability claims, makes it an attractive option for those seeking a secure storage solution.
