Self-Help Action Week 2025 Initiative
The city of Detmold is gearing up for the Action Week for Self-Help, which will take place from May 16 to 25. This event, organised by Silke Stegelmann, a pedagogue and employee of the Self-Help Contact Point for the Lippe district, is set to be a crucial event in the community's calendar.
Silke Stegelmann, who is also responsible for organising the Self-Help Action Week 2025, considers self-help as a vital pillar of society's support system. Self-help, she explains, is not a therapy but a way for people to support each other, especially with psychological stress.
Mayor Frank Hilker is a strong advocate for the Action Week for Self-Help 2025 in Detmold. He believes that the range of self-help services offers invaluable support to those dealing with various issues, such as cancer, depression, and caregiving.
Self-help groups are not platforms for complaining, but rather spaces for sharing worries and finding ways to look positively into the future. In fact, more than 40% of inquiries received by the Lippe Contact Point relate to self-help groups around mental illness.
The demand for self-help is not limited to the older generation. There is an increasing demand for self-help among young adults dealing with psychological problems.

It's worth noting that there are 163 self-help groups in Lippe for various needs, offering support to countless individuals in the community. The Action Week for Self-Help aims to raise awareness about these groups and encourage more people to seek help when they need it.
