On September 3, 2025, a tragic traffic accident occurred on state road 424 near Hessisch Oldendorf. The accident involved a tractor-trailer and a VW passenger car, resulting in the unfortunate death of a 78-year-old man from the town of Aerzen.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 20-year-old man from the Herford district, lost control of his vehicle in a curve. The police, along with rescue services, a crisis intervention pastor, a DEKRA accident reconstruction expert, and the Hessisch Oldendorf volunteer fire department, were present at the scene.

The driver's license of the 20-year-old was confiscated, and a blood sample was taken from him to check his fitness to drive. The results of the blood test are still pending.
The state road was closed from 10:15 AM to 5:20 PM for the accident investigation. The estimated total damage from the accident is approximately 60,000 EUR.
