New Jersey Senator Cory Booker has announced his engagement to girlfriend Alexis Lewis, and he has vowed to stand up for what's right in the upcoming budget battle in Washington.
Booker, who has never been married before, proposed to Lewis in Hawaii in a traditional Hawaiian ceremony. The proposal involved a traditional Hawaiian greeting, hula dancers, a Hawaiian dancer, a Polynesian dancer, and a man with a ukulele. A song meaningful to Lewis was performed during the proposal.
Lewis, a vice president of investments at Brasa Capital Management, previously worked as an economic development aide in the Los Angeles mayor's office. She is also associated with the company Kweli.
Booker's relationship with Lewis has been the subject of comparison with actress Rosario Dawson on social media. During his 2020 presidential campaign, Booker's relationship with Dawson was a topic of discussion.
In a speech delivered earlier this year, Booker warned that the "country is in crisis." He stated that he is standing and fighting against any kind of budget proposal that might harm individuals. Booker intends to oppose any budget proposal that he believes will hurt Americans or people in New Jersey.
Booker has vowed to "stand and fight" during the upcoming budget battle in Washington. In 2013, Booker addressed insinuations about his sexual orientation during his Senate run, stating that it should not matter for his role as a senator.
Cory Booker's engagement was also celebrated by his friend, actress Rosario Dawson, who commented on the announcement on Instagram.
