Louisiana Senator Warns Public About Consuming Radioactive Imported Shrimp with Reference to the Alien Movie Poster, Stating "It Will Kill You"

Senator from Louisiana displays 'Alien' film poster as cautionary measure against consuming radioactive imported shrimp, stating potential deadly consequences.

In late August 2025, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) discovered radioactive contamination in frozen shrimp imported from Indonesia. This revelation, which led to the recall of Great Value brand frozen shrimp, has sparked concern among U.S. citizens, particularly Senator John Kennedy from Louisiana.

Senator Kennedy expressed his disapproval, stating, "There is no excuse for it." He went on to mention that only around 1% of imported shrimp undergoes inspection before reaching the market, and even China does a better job in this regard.

The contaminated shrimp was being sold at Walmart locations across 13 states. The FDA and NOAA found that 26,460 packages of shrimp cocktail and 18,000 bags of frozen cooked shrimp, sold at Walmart and Kroger stores, contain the same radioactive isotope as previously discovered.

Senator Kennedy's concern is that consuming the shrimp could potentially be harmful or even fatal. More alarmingly, he warned that it could result in the growth of an extra ear, a claim he made in reference to the 1979 movie, Alien, where the alien character is depicted with an extra ear.

Kennedy displayed a poster of the movie's alien during his claim, drawing a humorous yet serious parallel between the fictional creature and the potential effects of consuming radioactive shrimp.

However, it's important to note that the FDA has not yet provided any evidence to support Kennedy's claim about the growth of extra body parts.

Senator Kennedy also mentioned that a similar incident occurred again shortly after the initial recall. He questioned, "How could this happen in America?"

In a bid to compare the U.S.'s inspection practices with other nations, Kennedy pointed out that the United Kingdom assesses 50 percent of the farmed seafood entering its nation.

Despite the concerns, no specific states have been identified as exporters of radioactively contaminated fresh fruits to the USA in the search results, nor have explanations been provided why very few imports from such states are inspected before entering the U.S. market.

As the FDA continues its investigation, consumers are advised to check the recall list and avoid consuming the affected products. The FDA urges anyone who has consumed the recalled shrimp and is experiencing unusual symptoms to seek immediate medical attention.
