Senegal Educates Politicians on Digital Innovation and Online Security Measures

The Ministry of Communication, Telecommunications and Digital, in partnership with the National Assembly of Senegal, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and other unspecified partners, has organised a training workshop on digital transformation and cybersecurity. This initiative is part of the government's efforts to foster a reliable, ethical, and inclusive digital environment for both citizens and businesses.

The five-day workshop, running from August 27 to 31, 2025, aims to equip parliamentarians with the necessary expertise to understand and navigate the complexities of digital transformation, artificial intelligence, personal data protection, and the fight against cybercrime. The strategic program is designed to strengthen the understanding of lawmakers, ensuring they can create effective public policies and laws that align with Senegal's "Technological New Deal" and its quest for digital sovereignty.

Cybersecurity and data protection have become a national imperative in Senegal due to rising cyber threats, online fraud, and privacy breaches. The workshop's objectives include ensuring a reliable, ethical, and inclusive digital environment for all. The overarching objective of the workshop is to empower parliamentarians, solidifying the Ministry's role in building a secure digital future for the nation.

The workshop's objectives do not specifically mention strengthening the understanding of lawmakers on specific topics like digital transformation, artificial intelligence, personal data protection, or the fight against cybercrime, as these have already been addressed in the strategic program. The objectives, however, emphasise the importance of creating a robust legislative framework that can support Senegal's digital ambitions and ensure its digital environment is reliable, ethical, and inclusive.
