September 11th, 2025: Joint Testing of Warning Systems: Federal, state, and local authorities carry out another round of rehearsals for their warning systems.
Nationwide Warning Day in Germany: A Stress Test for the Warning System
On September 11, 2025, Germany will participate in a nationwide warning day, a significant event designed as a "stress test at full load" for the country's warning system. This joint action day between the state and society, facilitated by the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK), aims to test the entire transmission chain from triggering to the end device.
Millions of people across Germany will receive the warning, which will be forwarded through various channels. This includes radio and television stations, digital display boards, warning apps, cell broadcast, and even loudspeaker vehicles in many communities. An all-clear will be issued around 11:45 am, except for cell broadcast which only sends warnings.
The BBK encourages citizens to share their experiences with the different warning channels. This feedback is a central part of the BBK's evaluation and will help in further developing the system. An online survey will be launched at 11 am on the nationwide warning day for this purpose. Citizens can participate until September 18, 2025, by visiting www.warntag-umfrage.de.
Dr. RenΓ© Funk, Vice President of the BBK, emphasizes the importance of this day, stating that an effective warning requires the population's support. The interplay of different warning channels will reach millions of people simultaneously, ensuring a comprehensive test of the system.
Many communities will additionally test their own warning means such as sirens. The key to the test is the close cooperation of the federal government, states, municipalities, and warning multipliers. The results of the online survey, along with the technical evaluation, will flow into the further development of the warning system, with the goal of making it more understandable and reliable for real events.
The BBK President, Ralph Tiesler, invites the public to share their experiences with the different warning options on this day. He believes that the nationwide warning day is a crucial step towards enhancing the resilience of Germany's warning system.
