In a recent hearing at the Magistrate's Court in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, seven Chinese nationals pleaded guilty to fraud charges related to a crypto investment scheme. The accused individuals, aged between 25 and 37, were charged under Section 120B(2) of the Penal Code for criminal conspiracy.

The offence took place at a premises located at Jalan Forest City 5, Pulau 1, Forest City in Tanjung Kupang near Gelang Patah, Iskandar Puteri, at 1.45pm on August 25. The charges were read in Mandarin during the trial.

The accused are alleged to have intended to deceive and induce victims, primarily from Vietnam, to hand over money for fraudulent purposes. The specific details about the victims or the crypto investment scheme were not provided in the court proceedings.

Despite requesting a lighter fine from the court, each accused was fined RM5,000. The guilty pleas were accepted by Magistrate Atifah Hazimah Wahab. However, the court's decision regarding the fine was not specified as being lighter or proportionate as requested by the accused.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nik Noratini Nik Azman asked the court to impose a proportionate sentence as a deterrent, taking into account the seriousness of the offence committed by all the accused. The court imposed a fine on each accused, but the name of the magistrate who imposed the fine was not mentioned in the proceedings.

The maximum sentence for the offence is six months' imprisonment, a fine, or both. It is unclear if any additional penalties will be imposed on the accused. The seven Chinese defendants, including Tan Wei Wei, Xu Laiwu, Ren Zilong, Li Jiang, Huang Yaolin, Li Libo, and Chen Hui, will appear in court again for sentencing on November 17.
